"How big will I get?"

....just put Layla down for her nap. She still loves to be carried to her room. Today, as I hauled her and her 2 two b's (blankets) down the stairs to her room I said, "Layla, someday you're going to be too big for me to carry so I'm going to enjoy this as long as I can." I was really giving myself a pep talk.
Layla asks, "mommy, how big will I get?"
"You'll get as big as mommy."
"Oh mommy, I don't want to get big, I want to stay little."
"I know babe, but its a blessing to grow up because you get more privileges."
"But mommy, I will always be your baby in your.......," she squints her eyes and purses her lips as she tries to remember what I always tell her. "Where in your body will I always be a baby?"
"In my heart?"
"Yes, that's it, in your heart. I knew I could remember. I'll be always a little bitty baby in your heart."
Oh, I'm basking in this moment, with her in my arms, snuggled in close, having a sweet bed time talk.
Layla abruptly sits up and gives me that "whatch you talkin' 'bout Willis" look.
"Mommy, how do I get in there? In your heart? Is it gross in there? Maybe I'll just get bigger"
Gross and weird are our newest words.
