At least someone is enjoying this weather!

Layla and Dave don't seem to mind that it is COLD in Iowa right now. I shouldn't complain as we started the week at 2 degrees and will reach 30 today. As always, the Handsaker house is busy. Layla has mostly mastered potty training although we are still using pull-ups at night. I'm just not brave enough for that one yet! As a first time mom who had never potty trained a child before, the first few days were frusterating. We just went right to big girl underpants and didn't look back. It was a little like house training a puppy for 3-4 days. Now that we're a month into it we seem to have it down and as I look back, she really did a great job. Layla is also getting very good at dressing, undressing, teeth and hair brushing by herself. We're down to 7 weeks of this pregnancy so I'm working on getting her to do more independently. Dave is also busy getting as much travel in now so he can take some time off the road when baby #2 arrives. As Layla and Dave seem to be speeding up, I'm slowing down! I'm not getting off the floor as quickly as I used to and my lap is getting smaller, much to Layla's dismay. I have a few small projects to get done this month and then March will be all about getting the babies room set up, clothes and toys out and all of that good stuff. Layla is so excited about the baby's arrival. We'll see if that excitement continues once she discovers the new baby will be living on her turf.........permenantly!

Baby #2 at 20 weeks

So, here is a sneak peek at baby #2 at 20 weeks. I am now 32 weeks and we get to have another ultra sound Feb 6th. We didn't have a 3D ultra sound with Layla, so this was fun. However, when I first saw him/her pop up on the screen it felt a little wrong seeing our baby that clearly while still in the womb! I know this picture is hard to really make out since it is a scanned picture on ultrasound paper, but I think this baby may actually look like me! I told Dave that I want to know what it feels like seeing a mini-me running around. The only way Layla could look more like Dave is if she were a boy.

Where I'd rather be right now...........

There is no warm weather trip for Dave and I this winter because of my quickly approaching due date with baby number 2. I know, I know, I know, this baby is MUCH more precious than any trip we could ever take. But.....a girl can still miss the sound of the ocean, the feel of the warm sun on her skin and a cold drink in her hand. And, of course, no one saying "mommy" every 30 seconds! This is a picture from our room's balcony in Maui. We are returning there next winter. Only 340 days and counting!

Should I even start such a thing?

So, I'm wondering........... if I start this blog, will I really keep up with it? I'm inspired by my cousins (Shannon and Karen) who do it so well. So, here we go. If you want to keep up with the Handsaker House, follow me into the 21st century of blogging.....it will be painless (I think, I've never actually kept a blog up before!)
