We made our annual pilgrimage to the Iowa State Fair this weekend. Dave took the kids on Saturday to spend time with the Hansakers and to see some friend's kids show calves. I, however, opted for a day in Des Moines......ALONE!! But, when we all met back at home Saturday afternoon, Layla filled me in on all I missed. Her excitement was probably the only thing that could get me to the fair this year. Last night we headed back to the fair so mommy could experience it with the kids. It's not that I don't enjoy the fair, I do. What I don't enjoy is that within minutes I'm sweating and already tired of saying, "excuse me" 1000 times as we haul a 1 year old, 3 year old and a double stroller through the crowds. But, we did make great family memories and that's why I go. We rode the sky glider, went down the big, yellow slide, and viewed all of Grandma Marcia's projects. The kids got to see the world's largest bull and pig. And, in Layla's words, "that is one enormous pig!"

I totally hear ya. Kim and I went to the Fair by ourselves on Saturday and it just wasn't the same without the kids. I think the mass amount of people turns me off the most. It might have been a little bit of the "we're here, now what" kind of thing too. :)
